New Centers and Facilities

February 2, 2017—The University of New Mexico Anderson School of Management (ASM) recently broke ground on the new McKinnon Center for Management. Nearly triple the size of the 50-year-old Anderson West building, the new US$25 million building is a 61,000-square-foot facility that will feature teaching spaces, conference areas, open-use study areas, three labs, and advising and career services centers. A US$5 million donation from Ian McKinnon and his wife, Sonnet, helped bring the project to fruition. The center is scheduled to open in 2018.
January 25, 2017—The University of Dayton will establish the Center for Cybersecurity & Data Intelligence with a lead gift from Premier Health. Premier will collaborate with the university's faculty experts and information technology staff to identify and test new cybersecurity practices, create education and awareness programs for employees, and share best practices with the greater Dayton community. The center will offer university students opportunities for experiential learning, internships, and job recruitment. Faculty from a cross section of disciplines—including computer science, computer engineering, management information systems, law and technology, and others—will contribute to the center's knowledge base. The center will initially focus on the healthcare environment but is seeking lead partners representing other industry sectors to broaden the scope of the center's work.
January 25, 2017—The William G. Rohrer College of Business at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, now has a new home in Business Hall. The 98,300-square-foot structure, which opened to a ribbon-cutting ceremony on January 18, is the first academic building dedicated solely to business education on Rowan’s Glassboro campus. The new building, which includes 14 classrooms, seven conference rooms, ten specialty spaces, 15 administrative offices, and 70 faculty offices, will allow Rowan to double its enrollment in the Rohrer College of Business.

January 17, 2017—Palm Beach Atlantic University will open a new Titus Center for Franchising at its Rinker School of Business this fall. The center, which was endowed by a gift from United Franchise Group (UFG) CEO, Ray Titus, will offer Rinker business students focused coursework, an internship program, and opportunities for job shadowing and training at UFG. The center also will provide professional education in franchising. John P. Hayes, a veteran franchise practitioner and educator, has been appointed as the Titus Chair for Franchise Leadership and center director.
January 17, 2017—The National Housing Endowment has awarded the Franklin L. Burns School of Real Estate and Construction Management at the University of Denver’s Daniels College of Business a US$100,000 HELP Grant to establish the Burns School Home Builders Academy. The academy, established in partnership with Oakwood Homes, Precision Building Systems, and the Colorado Construction Institute, will provide a hands-on learning experience for construction management students through a home-building learning lab. Additionally, the Burns School is developing a fully online non-degree Home Builders Academy Certificate, expected to launch in fall 2017.
January 11, 2017—The Martha and Spencer Love School of Business at Elon University in North Carolina opened a new Center for Organizational Analytics. The center serves as a hub for faculty, students, and industry thought leaders to disseminate best analytics practices, solve organizational problems, and promote analytics teaching and research. The center hosts an annual conference, an organizational analytics roundtable series, and workshops offering insights into analytic tools and approaches. Local business partners—including Amazon Web Services, SAS, and Go Global N.C.—provide data, student internships, and consulting projects.
December 20, 2016—James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia, has embarked on a campaign to support its new College of Business Learning Complex, an addition and renovation to its existing building. The school has already raised more than US$7 million toward its $15 million goal. The 166,000-square-foot space will allow the school to accommodate 5,000 students and provide new classrooms, informal gathering areas, an expanded capital markets lab, a tutoring lab, and other features. The learning complex is scheduled to break ground at the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year and be completed two years later.
December 20, 2016—The Robinson College of Business at Georgia State University in Atlanta has established the Center for Engaged Business Research to promote scholarship on contemporary business problems through collaboration among alumni of Robinson’s executive doctorate in business program, faculty, and doctoral students. The center was established with two goals: to provide alumni of the executive doctorate program with opportunities to collaborate on post-graduate research projects; and to facilitate publication of their work in peer-reviewed business journals and its presentation at conferences. The center also will offer businesses the chance to partner on research with graduates of the executive doctorate program, Robinson faculty, and doctoral students. Lars Mathiassen, academic director of the executive doctorate in business program, will serve as director of the new center.
November 7, 2016—In September, Bryant University in Smithfield, Rhode Island, opened its 48,000-square-foot Academic Innovation Center (AIC) to support teaching and learning on its campus. Designed by EYP Architecture and Engineering, the building will serve as a learning lab where students and faculty can work together to test and refine new ideas. The AIC will feature flexible spaces to support group work, simulations, rapid prototyping, social entrepreneurship, service learning projects, and flipped classrooms. The space also includes the Innovation Forum, a 5,000-square-foot space featuring both flat and tiered classrooms with modular furnishings and smart technologies; team breakout rooms; group study space; lounge seating; and a cafe.
October 26, 2016—The University of Illinois College of Business in Ubana launched the University of Illinois-Deloitte Foundation Center for Business Analytics at Urbana-Champaign. The center is funded by a US$5 million gift from the Deloitte Foundation and Deloitte's retired and current partners, principals, managing directors, and employees. The center will create a leading-edge curriculum for business analytics to provide students the data knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for today's companies to make enlightened financial and operational decisions. Curricula created at the center will be made available to other colleges and higher education institutions. 
October 26, 2016—In Ann Arbor, the University of Michigan's Stephen M. Ross School of Business celebrated the opening of its new Jeff T. Blau Hall. Open since September 6, the US$135 million building was funded, in part, by a US$10 million gift from Jeff T. Blau (BBA ‘90), as well as a gift by Stephen M. Ross (BBA ‘62). The 104,000-square foot academic building is named after the CEO of Related Companies, a private real estate development firms. The building consists of six floors and nine classrooms, as well as a career services center and office space for various staff departments including operations, finance, development, and human resources.
