Peter B. HenryFebruary 16, 2017Peter Henry, dean of New York University's Stern School of Business, has announced he will step down from his position at the end of December. Henry, who has served as dean since 2010, will return full time to the Stern faculty as a professor and scholar in global economics.

Gwangheon Hong, dean, Sogang Business SchoolFebruary 10, 2017Joanne Li has been appointed dean of Florida International University’s College of Business in Miami. Li has served as dean and professor of finance at the Raj Soin School of Business at Wright State University in Fairborn, Ohio, since 2012. She will take over from Jose M. Aldrich, who has served as acting dean at the FIU College of Business since May 2015 and will remain with the college as vice dean. Li begins her appointment in May.

Haim Hilman Abdullah, new dean at Universiti Utara Malaysia School of Business ManagementFebruary 10, 2017—The School of Business Management at Universiti Utara Malaysia has appointed Haim Hilman Abdullah as its new dean. Abdullah is a professor in strategic management, competitive strategy, and leadership. He began his new position on January 1.

Kelly Bean, new President and CEO of Executive Education at University of Virginia Darden School of BusinessFebruary 7, 2017—The University of Virginia Darden School of Business in Charlottesville and the Darden School Foundation have named Kelly Bean as the new CEO and president of executive education and Professor Tom Steenburgh Senior Associate Dean. Bean mostly recently served as associate dean of executive education at the University of California Los Angeles Anderson School of Management. She began her new role at Darden on February 1.

Margaret L. Williams, Jerry S. Rawls College of Business, Texas Tech UniversityFebruary 2, 2017Margaret L. Williams has been named the new dean of the Jerry S. Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Williams is currently a professor of management and the Page Endowed dean at the University of North Dakota's College of Business and Public Administration. She replaces Paul R. Goebel, the James E. and Elizabeth F. Sowell Professor of Finance, who has served as the college's interim dean since January 1, 2016.

Gwangheon Hong, dean, Sogang Business SchoolFebruary 2, 2017—Sogang Business School (SBS) at Sogang University in Seoul, Korea, has named Hong Gwangheon new dean, effective February 1. Hong has been on the faculty of SBS since 2003, following his earlier teaching careers at business schools in the U.S., including at the University of Houston. Outgoing dean Juyoung Kim will return to his faculty position at the school.

January 30, 2017—Dean Moses Pava of Sy Syms School of Business at Yeshiva University in New York City announced he is stepping down from his position as of June 30. After serving as dean of the business school for six years, Pava will rejoin the faculty as a professor of accounting and hold several additional appointments in the school: the Alvin Einbender Professor of Business Ethics, chair of the Accounting Department, and director of the Sy Syms Honors and Entrepreneurial Leadership Program.

January 27, 2017—California State University, Bakersfield, has appointed Angappa Gunasekaran as dean for the School of Business and Public Administration. Gunasekaran is currently at the Charlton College of Business at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, where he has served as dean since January 2013 and as a professor of operations management since 1998. Over the years, he has held academic positions in the U.K., Australia, Finland, India, and Canada. He begins his new dean position on July 1.

Martin Boehm, Dean, IE Business SchoolJanuary 26, 2017—IE Business School at IE University in Madrid recently announced the appointment of Martin Boehm as its new dean, effective this month. Boehm, currently dean of programs at the business school, will succeed Santiago Íñiguez de Onzoño, who has been dean of IE Business School since 2004 and was recently appointed executive president of IE University. Boehm joined IE Business School in 2006 and has since served as a professor of marketing, dean of undergraduate studies, associate dean of the Master in Management programs, and his current position, which he has held since 2012.

John KraftJanuary 25, 2017—At the conclusion of the 2016-17 academic year, John Kraft will step down as dean of the Warrington College of Business at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He has served as Warrington’s dean since 1990 and is the longest-tenured dean at the university. Kraft will remain on Warrington’s faculty teaching strategy and working with the college’s entrepreneurship, international business, and real estate programs. Kraft has served as chair of AACSB International's board of directors and on numerous committees within the organization, including the Business Accreditation Committee and the Maintenance of Accreditation Committee.

January 25, 2017—The University of East London (UEL) has appointed Annette Cast as new dean of the Royal Docks School of Business and Law. Cast is currently deputy principal of Newham College of Further Education, a strategic partner of UEL. In her career, Cast has established 22 new foundation degrees, seven bachelor degree programs, and six university partnerships. She begins her new role in April.

Viral Acharya, professor of finance, NYU Stern School of BusinessJanuary 11, 2017—Professor of finance at New York University's Stern School of Business Viral Acharya has been appointed Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India by the Central Government of India. In his role, Acharya will be in charge of monetary policy, foreign exchange, market operations, and research and statistics. Acharya, also director of the NSE-NYU Stern Initiative on the Study of Indian Capital Market, is a recipient of the 2017 Alexandre Lamfalussy Senior Research Fellowship of the Bank for International Settlements and the inaugural Banque de France and Toulouse School of Economics Junior Prize in Monetary Economics and Finance in 2011.

Raquel AlexanderDecember 27, 2016—Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, announced that Raquel Alexander will become the first Kenneth W. Freeman Professor and Dean of its newly approved College of Management. The college, which was approved by the Board of Trustees in October, will become the third at Bucknell University, joining the Colleges of Arts & Sciences and Engineering, and will be officially established in July 2017. Alexander, currently associate dean of the Williams School of Commerce, Economics and Politics at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, will succeed interim dean of management Michael Johnson-Cramer. Her appointment is effective when the college opens in July.

Jason GarrettDecember 27, 2016Jason Garrett has been named new dean of Union University's McAfee School of Business Administration in Jackson, Tennessee. Garrett has served as associate dean of Bradley University's Foster College of Business since 2013. He succeeds Keith Absher, who served as dean for more than a decade before his passing in 2015. Bill Nance has been serving as acting dean in the interim. Garrett begins his new appointment on January 23.

IñiguezDecember 20, 2016—In January, Santiago Íñiguez, dean and professor of strategic management at IE Business School in Madrid, Spain, will become executive president of IE University. In that role, he will head the strategy of the five schools that make up the institution. He also will be driving further internationalization, developing new formats for the integration of learning and technology, and establishing international agreements to create learning platforms with leading universities. He will step down as dean of the business school, a role he has held since 2004. Under his leadership, the school has developed strategic alliances with universities around the globe and partnered with the Financial Times to create the FT-IE Corporate Learning Alliance, an executive education platform. Since July 2016, also Íñiguez has been board chair of AACSB International.

Todd Mooradian, Dean, University of Louisville College of BusinessDecember 20, 2016—The College of Business at the University of Louisville in Kentucky has named Todd Mooradian new dean. Mooradian currently serves as associate dean for faculty and academic affairs and the William J. Fields Professor of Business at the College of William & Mary Mason School of Business Administration in Williamsburg, Virginia. He will succeed two interim deans: Alan Attaway, who has served since the summer, and Rohan Christie-David, who served from April 2014 to the summer of 2016. Mooradian begins his new position March 1.

December 14, 2016—Golden Gate University's Edward S. Ageno School of Business in San Francisco has named Gordon Swartz its new dean. He replaces  Paul Fouts, who announced his retirement earlier this year. Swartz previously held administrative posts at London Business School and Georgetown University. Prior to his academic roles, he served as an officer in the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency.

Richard Franza, New Dean of the James M. Hull College of Business at Augusta UniversityDecember 13, 2016Richard M. Franza, currently senior associate dean of the Michael J. Coles College of Business at Kennesaw State University in Georgia, has been named new dean of the James M. Hull College of Business at Augusta University. He succeeds Mark Thompson, who has served as interim dean since July 2015. Franza officially begins his new role at Augusta on February 1.

December 1, 2016Dean L. Johnson has been named dean of the School of Business and Economics at Michigan Technological University in Houghton. He is currently the James and Dolores Trethewey APMP professor and founding director MTU's Applied Portfolio Management Program. Johnson, who has served as interim dean since January of this year, begins his new appointment immediately.

November 28, 2016—The University of Colorado Boulder has appointed Sharon F. Matusik as interim dean of the Leeds School of Business. Matusik, currently senior associate dean for faculty and research and professor of strategy and entrepreneurship, begins her new role in January. She will replace economist William Kaempfer, senior vice provost and associate vice chancellor for budget and planning, who has served in the role since mid-September.

November 22, 2016—University of Dayton finance professor Fukuo Albert Wang has been named a visiting scholar for the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in Washington, D.C. His yearlong appointment in the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis began September 1. The agency recruited Wang for his expertise in behavioral finance, market microstructure, and systematic risk. He will be involved in rule-making, with a focus on preventing future financial crises and the influence of new technologies.

November 21, 2016—At the conclusion of the 2016–2017 academic year, Hugh Courtney will step down as dean of Northeastern University’s D’Amore-McKim School of Business in Boston, Massachusetts. Courtney will remain at the school as a member of the tenured faculty. During his tenure as dean, which began in 2012, the school launched new full-time and online master’s programs, increased its undergraduate student body by 16 percent, and secured donor gifts that resulted in the naming of the school.

Mark GabbottNovember 14, 2016Mark Gabbott, new dean of Adelaide Business School at the University of Adelaide in Australia, recently began his role at the school part time and will transition to full time in January. Gabbott comes to Adelaide most recently from Macquarie University, where he was executive dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics and pro vice-chancellor, international. Prior to his posts at Macquarie he served Monash Business School for nearly 12 years as a professor and head of marketing and deputy dean.

November 3, 2016—Last July, D. Scott DeRue became the new Edward J. Frey Dean of the University of Michigan Stephen M. Ross School of Business in Ann Arbor. He previously held positions as the Gilbert and Ruth Whitaker Professor of Business Administration, associate dean for executive education, and professor of management and organizations at the Ross School. He replaced Alison Davis-Blake, who stepped down after five years of service and returned to the faculty.

November 2, 2016John Percival has been appointed dean of the College of Business at the Minerva Schools at KGI in San Francisco, California. Percival, who previously taught finance at the Wharton School, is also the founder of J.R.P. Associates, which provides executive education and finance consulting to clients in the public and private sectors.

Richard Kolbe headshot - new dean, Leighton School of Business & Economics at Indiana University South BendNovember 1, 2016Richard Kolbe has been named new dean of the Leighton School of Business & Economics at Indiana University South Bend. Kolbe most recently served as dean of the Haile/US Bank College of Business at Northern Kentucky University. He succeeds Rob Ducoffe, who now serves as provost and vice chancellor at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Kolbe begins his appointment on January 1.

October 24, 2016Ajay Vinzé has been named the new dean of the Robert J. Trulaske Sr. College of Business at the University of Missouri in Columbia. He was previously the Earl and Gladys Davis Distinguished Professor in the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. His appointment is effective January 1, when he succeeds Stephen Ferris, who has served as interim dean of the Trulaske College since the summer of 2015.

Andrea Grove, Chief Editor of the International Journal of Social BusinessOctober 13, 2016Andrea Grove, professor of political science at California State University-Channel Islands (CI), was named chief editor of the International Journal of Social Business by Nobel peace laureate Muhammad Yunus. The new journal is aimed at those who want to learn more about the field of social business and how they can get involved. Grove helped launch CI’s global studies major in 2015 and served as the director of CI’s California Institute for Social Business, founded in 2010 by Yunus.
